John 1:14 (NIV)
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son (Jesus), who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Commenting on this passage, Tim Keller writes, “Truth without love is harshness; it gives us information but in such a way that we cannot really hear it. Love without truth is sentimentality; it supports and affirms us but keeps us in denial about our flaws.”

In case you miss Pastor Kellers point, let me break it down:

1. If you are ALL TRUTH and NO GRACE, you are a BULLY – much like the “culture warriors” of the past.

2. If you are ALL GRACE and NO TRUTH, you are a COWARD – I would put many of the modern mainline denomination churches in this category (Episcopalian, Methodist, Presbyterian Church USA, etc.)

Jesus was here on earth, in the flesh, and at all times full of 100% grace and 100% truth – He didn’t have to split his time because He is PERFECT! We however are not. But, we are called to serve and live with Jesus as the model – “If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:25)

#RadicalMen – Make an effort daily to live equally in grace and in truth.
