As I sit and reflect on things (which is a rare occurrence trust me) I find myself wondering how my Children (x3) can be closer to God. I certainly know firsthand the benefits of a close and personal relationship with the Lord and I so want my Children to see those same benefits of obedience.
Psalm 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.
Though we have a busy schedule in the Romero home, I’ve seen technology & entertainment feeding ravenously on our free time more and more. While I’m a firm believer in balancing spiritual and natural life, the hyenas of technology & entertainment are overfed, tipping the balances. The Apostle John wrote a lot about this very thing:
1 John 2:15-17 15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
In my home Technology & entertainment are on notice. I’m putting these hyenas on a short leash while presenting alternatives. How about a weekly family Bible study? How about playing a board game with the Psalms playing in the background. How about writing Proverbs on mirrors in the house with dry erase? How about daily family prayer?
I leave you with the following scriptures and I ask that any folks wanting to starve technology and entertainment along with the Romero’s please encourage us. Let us know the benefits you’re receiving drawing closure to God.
James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
